I would call it a practice run or a shake down run. The turns are many, & not overly tight. Traffic often slows the speeds, but if by yourself, you can spurt by them and continue at your desired pace. The start on Wooden Vly Rd along with Monticello Rd has the tightest turns of the day and some of the steepest hills. Once on Hwy 128, the road straightens somewhat and widens, allowing for higher speeds and relaxed cruising. The turn onto Knoxville Rd take us to Lake Berryessa. Great views of the lake, but often with trailered boats in the way. After a stop just passed the bridge, we head up Pope Canyon Rd. Here the hills will lightly test your brakes and braking skills. Then it is on to Pope Vly Rd and Butts Canyon Rd. Both can be taken at speed or at a relaxed pace joyously. Lunch is in Middletown at the deli though others may enjoy Cowpoke Cafe. The way back is along the same roads, though we take Chiles Vly rather than Pope Canyon to Knoxville. |
